Hitting and Pitching Splits in Tout Wars

As you know, I spent the good part of last week talking about hitting and pitching splits in CBS and in LABR without reaching any definitive conclusions as to trends.  For completeness sake, I want to add the hitting and pitching splits from Tout Wars American League and National League.  I’m not listing out the pitching prices in this post as I did for the previous posts, but it is possible you will see them again in the near future J

The National League Tout Wars split just shy of 70%/30%, though admittedly it got there in a unique way.  Two teams spent over $200 on pitching, while two teams spent $94 and $111 on pitching.  Everyone else fell right between $173/$87 and $185/$75.

The American League Tout Wars, on the other hand, split…70%/30%.  Five teams actually split 73%/27%, though no one cracked the $200 barrier in the American League.

It seems that the differentiation in splits between the National League and the American League is disappearing.  All three expert American Leagues split at 70%/30%, while two of the three National Leagues (CBS and LABR) split at 71%/29% and Tout split at 70%/30%.  Instead of valuing pitchers by perceived scarcity in the American League and National League, it seems the experts are valuing it equally between leagues, and slowly but surely allotting more money away from the pitchers and toward the hitters.

I'm in one of these laid-back, screwy Yahoo! leagues for the first time. 6x6 (R, OPS, K, QS), mixed league, H2H, $260 auction. 9 position players, 9 P. Playoffs in the last three weeks. I already know that shallow leagues lead to non-linear prices; the studs skyrocket. And obviously the addition of Ks and QS will make middle relievers almost worthless, and seriously devalue closers (except for Marmol). Two specific, yet general theory-based questions:

1. Is $60 high enough for Pujols, especially given the few position players who play each week?

2. How close to Pujols should pitchers like Halladay, Felix H., Lincecum, and Lee be priced?

Thanks.

T.J. - let me start with this: I am no expert in 6x6 mixed H2H 9 position player leagues. The good news: no one else is either :)

My intuition tells me that, yes, the top studs should go high, just like they should in a shallow mixed league. The replacement level player is just too far behind the top studs.

Pitching is where I get a little hazy. I would immediately think that pitchers should be significantly lower than hitters, since so many more pitchers break from the free agent pool to achieve significant earnings (a better chance than hitters, at least).

On the flip side, since the ratio of pitchers to hitters is 1:1, and since quality starts is a category, I'm thinking the pitching prices should be higher on the whole than what I would consider "regular mixed league" prices, and the top tier pitchers should be higher than the rest of the gaggle of pitchers. I do not think you should be paying $60 for a pitcher; Maybe the ratio should be something like the 1.35:1 ratio in Tout/LABR of top hitter to top pitcher, putting you around $40 for a top pitcher off of a $55 bid for a top hitter?

I would be curious to hear others' thoughts who are more familiar with mixed leagues.
