N.L. FAAB Log: June 14, 2010

Jose Tabata: $21. Other bids $14, $12, $12, $12, $11, $10, $6.
It almost feels like Tabata is a failed prospect since he has been on the radar screen for so long.  He is only 21, however, and the future is now.  John Sickels listed him as a B prospect coming into the year, and while his power has not yet developed, he is burning up the base paths.  His K/BB is vastly improved (though he could walk more, of course) and while he will have slumps, he should provide your team with a pretty good boost in steals.  This bid is pretty aggressive, though the top tier prospects are already off the board.

Brad Lincoln: $12.  Other bids: $6, $5, $1.
Sickels has a nice summary of Lincoln here.  He put up very nice numbers in AAA, and it looks like the control problems that plagued Lincoln earlier are under control (at least they were in the minors).  The real question here is: what is Brad Lincoln long-term?  The Pirates are not very good, and Lincoln does not have "ace" stuff, so $12 is an overly aggressive bid.  The other bids are decent "keeper" bids, and this is a good place to look for a potential cog in the wheel for your staff next year.

Kenshin Kawakami: $6.  Other bids: $6, $1.
Kawakami has righted the ship somewhat, and his FIP is not much different than last year's FIP.  The Braves are hot right now, and Kawakami is a good target for wins.  I like the bid at $6 for both this year and next year.

Jonny Venters: $4.  Other bids: $2, $1.
Venters is not really a "prospect," but he has a live arm and is mowing hitters down left and right out of the pen.  If there are any more injuries in the Braves bullpen, you could see him pick up a stray save or two.  Otherwise, if your league rewards middle relievers, this is a good strikeout option.

Randy Winn: $2.  Other bids: $0, $0.
Winn did nothing for the Yankees, and the whispers are that he is finished.  He seems to love the N.L., though, putting up a .290 average over 5 years with the Giants.  You can count on a handful of steals from him in a 4th outfielder role, for as long as it lasts.

Arthur Rhodes: $2.  Other bids: $1, $0, $0.
Rhodes continues to sustain his 100% strand rate, though the BABIP has crept all the way up to .179.  He has a sore foot, so watch out for poor performance or a D.L. stint.  He continues to be a potential CIW.

Kyle Kendrick: $1.
I wrote about Kendrick here. He had a bit inconsistent but generally good May, but got rocked by the Marlins.  The peripherals continue to suggest further regression.  It is likely he's gone when Happ comes back next month, though with as poorly as the Phils' bottom three has pitched, who knows.

Gregor Blanco: $1.  Other bids: $0.
Blanco is a journeyman at 26.  He'll steal a handful of bases, but has no pop.  He is an option in deep NL formats only.

Santiago Casilla: $1.
Casilla was horrible last year, but what a difference eight innings and a stray save makes.  He's really a low grade option out of the bullpen.

Chad Tracy: $1.
Tracy should see some ABs in Aramis Ramirez' absence.  He still has some pop in the ever slowing bat, so he's a nice hedge if you need a couple of homers or if you own Ramirez.

Oscar Salazar: $0.
Salazar has a little pop, and he's getting occasional starts as the Padres outfield recovers from some nagging injuries.  He is a very low grade option in deep NL leagues.

Ross Gload: $0.
Nothing to see here...just filler.

Kyle McClellan: $0.
Nothing has changed about McClellan since I wrote about him here, except the strikeouts are dropping off a little bit.
