A.L. FAAB Supplemental: June 14, 2010

Jake Arrieta
I wrote about Arrieta here late last week. I think it will take about $30 to get him, but given the division and Arrieta's control/command issues, I probably wouldn't go higher than $15.

Carlos Santana
Santana is not only one of the best catching prospects in baseball; he's one of the best prospects in baseball, period. He was kept in the minors this season not because his offense or defense needed work, but rather because his English needed improvement so he could handle a pitching staff capably. His numbers at AAA were stellar. As great as the power numbers were, I'm particularly impressed by the BB/K ratio sitting over 1.0. The floor for Santana seems like 15-20 HR with a .260-.270 batting average, but he also seems like a player who could be really, really special and approach Johnny Bench/Mike Piazza numbers behind the dish. If you're in an A.L.-only, have a hole behind the plate, and are contending, break the bank. I'd bid $70, since I don't see a better A.L. hitting prospect making it up this year (Jesus Montero and Desmond Jennings are both struggling at AAA). Keep in mind that this is a high risk/high reward move; Matt Wieters is a recent example of a catching prospect that is taking a while to figure it out with the bat.
