Trade Talks Continued

My opining on Geoff Jenkins yesterday got sas4's trade juices flowing.
Is it too much of a reach to try and get Orlando Cabrera for (Geoff) Jenkins?

And what if I did flipped my thinking and traded (Adam) Dunn for speed and Jenkins for a pitcher? What should I expect for Dunn?
The answer to the first question is yes. I can't think of too many owners who would trade an everyday shortstop with speed for a platoon OF, even one that's on the good side of the platoon like Jenkins.

I don't have a lot of experience with mixed leagues, but I have noticed that value tends to flow toward middle infielders and catchers. It makes some sense...it's slightly easier to find a serviceable replacement for your last OF than it is for your third MI. You certainly can ask for Cabrera, but I don't think you'll get him.

As far as trading Dunn and Jenkins in two separate deals, the feasibility of that depends on how much power you have to trade. If you're trading both players, it sounds like you have a lot to move. I'd definitely ask for a pretty strong speed guy back. Carlos Gomez and Juan Pierre seem like they'd be in the ballpark of what I'd be looking for. Yes, they're both very valuable, but both have flaws in their game, and you could easily point out to your opponent that you're making a two category for one category trade (assuming that the runs more or less continue to cancel out).

I have pointed out the problem with trading power for speed, though. Dunn strikes me as a safer player than either Gomez (whose K/BB should give any owner pause) and Pierre (who is the fourth best OF in the Dodger OF when all four OF are healthy). I never want to be in the position where I feel like I'd have to move Dunn, but your instincts are correct: that probably is your best bet if you want to make a big impact quickly in the category. I'm stuck in the same position in my A.L.-only, and the idea of trading a power bat for a pure speed guy isn't comforting.

Yes, Mike I come from the old school - you can never have too much power. After a horrendous start (Ortiz, Dunn, Jenkins, Sizemore, Frank Thomas), I find myself (15 team league) HR-1st, BA-2nd, RBI's 3rd but R-11th and SB 13th.

I did not pick up enough hitters in the 1, 2 and 3 slots though I did get Carlos Quentin, Sizemore, and Victorino.

My 'ace in the hole' is Eric Chavez. Before I do anythign with Dunn, I am going to see how Chavez performs.

I can pick up a free agent this week. I replaced Yorvit with Treanor and carrying Torrealba on my reserves is like having a rock instead of a spare tire.

The problem is there is no one who steals (at least that I know of) so I may try to pick up a potential closer - any recommendations in that deaprtment?

My rps are Acosta, JP Howell, and Isringhausen (ugh); the first two I paid little for - and that is what I am getting . I hate paying for saves.
