Geoff Jenkins

sas4's looking for a speed guy, and wonders how much he could fetch for Geoff Jenkins in trade.
I am ready to trade G. Jenkins for some speed. I figure his value could not be higher and Philly makes him attractive to those who need HR and RBI's. I need SB and runs. Any recommendations as to who I might get in return - where I could get a little edge in the bargain?
It would seem that Jenkins' value should be high right now. But I'm not sure anyone who doesn't own him would notice.

After a tepid 1/4/1/7/.268 April, Jenkins has put together a nice May, with a 3/10/0/11/.323 line to his credit, and a particularly solid 869 OPS. It's possible that as the weather heats up and the friendly confines of CBP get humid, Jenkins will go on a home run binge.

But Jenkins has essentially been cast as a platoon player. He has all of 14 AB against lefties this season, and the bad news about his hot May is that he only had 62 AB this month entering tonight.

Looking at the recent trades Jenkins has been involved in in CBS Sportsline leagues (I don't think this link will work for non-Sportsline members), it doesn't look like the return for him has been all that hot in 1-for-1 trades. In the last seven days, he's been traded for Rich Aurilia, Shawn Chacon, Corey Patterson, Jeremy Hermida, John Bowker, Felix Pie, Matt Diaz, and Chuck James.

With the exception of the Jenkins/Hermida trade, Jenkins is getting moved for a number of speculative players right now. This makes some sense. As I pointed out, Jenkins has had a good month, but it's not a month where he hit 6 HR and drove in 20. You have to squint to see it, and as a result the players coming back for him are guys on the DL or who have been hurt, part-timers who could see an increased role, or someone like Chacon who is really nothing more than a blind stab in the dark.

Your best bet is going to be to try and convince an owner who is very light on power to trade a pure speed guy who might be underperforming, or whose stats look lighter than they are due to an injury. Someone like Tad Iguchi or Kaz Matsui would be interesting. Jerry Hairston, I suppose, is another option, though the AB could disappear overnight.

It looks to me, though, like Jenkins' value still isn't at its peak. You might need to move a heavier bat to make the big splash in steals it sounds like you need to make, and hope that Jenkins parlays his strong May into one of those patented Jenkins hot streaks that makes him worth owning.

Thanks Mike. Interesting how we come up with similar choices. I had those guys as well as Jason Bartlett (who I may get since he is the only one available). My other option is to trade Adam Dunn but I prefer to use him to get a better pitcher (my bargains are helping -Gavin Floyd, K Kendrick, Correia, Edwin Jackson, but Beckett and Mastuzaka need some help). Is it too much of a reach to try and get Orlando Cabrera for Jenkins?

And what if I did flipped my thinking and traded Dunn for speed and Jenkins for a pitcher? What should I expect for Dunn?

Thanks
