The bad news:
I will be away from the blog next
week. Mike G. will be handling both the
American League and the National League next week while I discuss fantasy
baseball with Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and the rest of the characters at
Disney. I hope you miss me.
The long term news:
I wanted to hold this until later in the year, but this part of the post wrote itself over the last couple of days. So here it is. I have decided to hang up the
fantasy cleats at the end of the year. I
have now hit a quarter-century of playing fantasy baseball in one form or
another, and I finally reached a burnout point.
Family always comes first, and with my youngest son now playing every
sport under the sun, along with the activities of my two older kids, the time
to devote to fantasy baseball is diminished considerably. Add to that my real job, as well as my quickly
increasing time devoted to volunteer work for veterans here in the Philadelphia
area, and, well, my addictive and obsessive personality will not let me play
the fantasy game at half-speed.
What does this mean for RotoThinkTank? For this year, absolutely nothing…you will
have to put up with me two to three times per week like you do now. For the long term, not a lot – this blog is,
always has been, and always will be defined by Mike Gianella. He birthed it, he is the brains behind it,
and he will continue it in whatever form he thinks is worthwhile. I only hope I teach someone as much about
something as he taught me about fantasy baseball. He is such a good friend, and I thank him for
the opportunity to write for you here for the past several years. And I will reappear from time to time as
relevant topics arise.
Finally, thank you to all of you who follow us
here. I enjoy writing generally, but
your positive feedback and your poignant questions are the lifeblood of the
pieces I write. I will miss you most.
Let me leave you with this quote, as it is one of
my favorites, particularly being a lawyer.
Bill Veeck, thank you for this one: "Baseball is almost the only
orderly thing in a very unorderly world. If you get three strikes, even the
best lawyer in the world can't get you off."
