Bad Drops

Over at Roto Authority, some of the industry experts chime in on the worst drops they've made thus far this season.

This is a harder game to play in one-league leagues, as Derek Carty's answer reveals. Often, we might wind up ditching guys who are borderline only to see them bounce back and provide some decent value. But we're unlikely to drop an every day player we dropped $15-20 on in April simply because: a) the free agent pool seldom provides anyone all that much better and b) it's likely that we have a complete dead spot on our roster that needs upgrading.

So far, in the four leagues I'm in, I've cut the following players:

A.L. Non-Expert: Joaquin Arias, Freddy Garcia, Scott Linebrink, Darren Oliver, JJ Putz, Matt Treanor.

Arias was my fill-in for Ian Kinsler. Treanor was in there for Jarrod Saltalamacchia and I've since improved my catching somewhat with John Jaso. The pitchers were guys I was cycling in while waiting for some injured pitchers to return and I grabbed Doug Fister on waivers too. No complaints here.

N.L. Non-Expert: Doug Davis, Joel Hanrahan, Akinori Iwamura, Kyle Kendrick, Paul Maholm, Oliver Perez, Carlos Villanueva.

Most of the pitchers here have been cycled through the same slot (originally occupied by Maholm). I've been streaming these guys every week and am now back to Maholm. Hanrahan became Davis and then Jose Contreras; even if Contreras loses the job to Brad Lidge, I can't complain. Iwa became superfluous once I made a dump deal and he became my 15th man on offense.

N.L. CBS Expert: Josh Anderson, Danys Baez, Greg Dobbs, Chad Durbin, Kelvim Escobar, Nelson Figueroa, Gary Matthews Jr., Dan Meyer, Dan Runzler, Ruben Tejada, Josh Thole, Eugenio Velez, Travis Wood.

CBS has a seven-man deep reserve list and daily FAAB. As a result, I spend (waste?) a lot of time streaming guys who may or may not turn in to something. These are mostly the non-productive players I picked up and then dropped when it became clear they wouldn't help.

N.L. Tout Wars: Josh Anderson, Roger Bernadina, Jamey Carroll, Frank Catalanotto, Aaron Cunningham, Sean Gallagher, Matt Stairs, Travis Wood.

Perhaps there's a little room for regret here on Bernadina and Carroll, given that this is my lone Stars and Scrubs effort and you do want your Scrubs to be semi-productive. However, it's not like Bernadina and Carroll are Matt Kemp and Hanley Ramirez.

So there you have it. In deep leagues, you're typically not dropping anyone worth crying about. In the unlikely event someone like Treanor or Kendrick plays superbly this year, I'll be a little disappointed but I certainly won't be kicking myself.
