Thus far, Escobar has been a disappointment to his fantasy owners, mostly because he doesn't have a single stolen base to his credit. He's making good contact (only eight strikeouts) but his BABIP - while in line with his LD% - should probably be higher considering the raw speed he has. He isn't a total zero in real life because of his defense, but since his offensive value is mostly locked up in his speed, he's going to have to start stealing to be all that worthwhile in Roto.
John Sickels had said that "a lot of people compare Escobar to Elvis Andrus", while Baseball Prospectus compared him favorably to Orlando Cabrera. I like the Cabrera comparison better right now, but think that Escobar could turn into a replica of Cabrera down the line. This isn't bad, but temper your expectations if you thought that Escobar was going to turn into an $18-20 earner this year like Andrus was in his rookie season last year.
