Chris Snyder/Miguel Montero/John Hester I mention Chris Snyder and Miguel Montero only due to the nature of the injury Montero suffered; it is a shame that this occurs on the heels of a pretty nice break-out, and hopefully the injury is limited to a 4-6 week recovery time. Snyder should already be owned in all leagues. The new back-up catcher, John Hester, will have a little value for the next 4-6 weeks. Hester has a little pop in his bat and, in deep leagues, is a viable option for a couple of cheap home runs.
Michael Leake Drafted 7 spots behind Strasburg, Leake makes it to the majors first. Leake is a B/B+ prospect with middle of the rotation stuff. Are the 7 walks a concern? Sure. Is Dusty Baker a concern? Yes (107 pitches in a major league debut - way to go Dusty). Should all deep NL leagues be picking Leake up? Yes. For those of you with minor league systems, I would go ahead and activate him...I believe he'll be in the rotation for the long haul, and he gets Zach Duke and the Pirates this week.
Chris Young/Wade LeBlanc Imagine - Chris Young injured in the first week of the season!!! Who would have thought? Anyway, LeBlanc looks like the guy who will come up and join the Petco Padres if Young is out for any extended period of time. Finesse lefty, thin margin for error...with the off days, that rotation spot will be skipped, so I would pass if LeBlanc is brought up for now.
Joel Hanrahan He will be back this week, and it appears Danny McCutcheon will be the man headed back to AAA. Given the closer at the back of the Pirates bullpen (I shudder to even say his name here), stash Hanrahan away on your reserve list; he may be the closer before all is said and done, and you should find a few cheap (but ugly) saves in your back pocket.
Scott Olsen Just a reminder for those of you with daily transactions - he will be called up to start against the Phillies on Thursday in CBP. You might want to avoid that start.
