Is Jerry Blevins worth a $1 bid? Failing that, is he worth a cheap FAAB throw?
Probably. He strikes out about a batter an inning and while he's a flyball pitcher, his BABIP and strand rate are all pretty normal. He's actually the odd reliever who might be better in 5x5 where strikeouts count; the drip in 4x4 from his ERA/WHIP probably isn't worth it.
Is there a chance he could close? In Oakland's forward-thinking organization, I wouldn't put it past them, but I suspect that if something happened to Andrew Bailey that Brad Ziegler would be next in line for now. After Ziegler, though, it does get murky, so in an A.L.-only league with really, really deep reserve lists, you can certainly stash Blevins if you like. His lefty/righty splits the last three years favor his work against LHB, but are about as radical as George Sherrill's were before Baltimore tabbed Sherrill as the closer and they're superior to C.J. Wilson's splits in Texas.

Are you trying to get me to buy Blevins on Saturday to avoid getting into bidding wars with me on other pitchers?
