Good Finishes even with a bust

Not surprisingly, my best and worst lists bring out those seeking sympathy:
Me, last season: (Conor) Jackson AND (Alfonso) Soriano. Ugh.
It happens even more on the pitching side.
What if you had 3 of the top 5 losing NL pitchers? LOL... I had the other 2/5 the year before but dumped them with the injury issues in the spring.
This piece is shout out to owners who bought one or more big busts and wound up with the highest finish in their respective expert league.

In LABR A.L., Chris Liss of Rotowire.com bought three Top 10 busts (Joey Hamilton, B.J. Upton, and Chien-Ming Wang) and still managed to finish third...a mere 13 1/2 points out of the money.

LABR N.L. saw Nate Ravitz of ESPN.com buy Carlos Beltran and finish 2nd, six points out.

In the CBS Sports analysts league, I managed to win going away despite hanging myself with Mike Aviles.

On the CBS N.L. side of the house, Eric Mack of CBS Sports might have pulled off the most impressive of feats. He finished second despite the fact that he bought the biggest bust of all, Jose Reyes. He even paid $2 more than his $44 average salary. (Mack also bought pitching bust Oliver Perez).

So don't feel too bad about your busted players, UNLESS that bust led you to a second place finish. It wouldn't surprise me if Ravitz or Mack would have won or finished much, much closer if only they hadn't bought Beltran or Reyes.

I finished tied for third in a 13 player 5x5/MLB league. I was in first with two weeks to play and second the day before the season ended.

I used two of my three keepers on Jay Bruce and Chris Davis. $6 each.

In the auction, I purchased such esteemed names as David Wright ($37), Jose Reyes ($38), Hunter Pence, Rickie Weeks, B.J. Upton, Chad Billingsley, Brett Myers, Brandon Morrow, Hiroki Kuroda, and Chris Snyder.

It gets better. Immediately after his suspension, I spun Heath Bell into Manny Ramirez. Later on in the season, I dealt Luke Scott and (keeper) Aaron Hill for Michael Young and Alfonso Soriano right before both of the latter got hurt. And I traded (keeper) Ryan Franklin for Ricky Nolasco right off his hot streak and right into his last implosion streak.

Yeah, it didn't work out how I'd hoped. I actually dropped from 2nd to 4th on the technical last day; the one game playoff pushed me back to a tie for 3rd.

Weird year.
