FAAB Supplemental: C.C. Sabathia

After spending a good 2-3 hours writing about all the FAAB pick-ups between midnight and 2 a.m., Monday's usually my day off. But TJ's clamoring for another post.

You gotta do a FAAB Supplemental on CC (he doesn't like the periods anymore) Sabathia! Quick! :)

Break the bank, TJ. Quick!

I'll put a $97 bid on him just for fun, figuring that everyone's spent a couple of FAAB bucks by now. I also figure that the maximum bid will get him.

C.C.'s stats look solid but not great this year, but that's mostly due to a 13.50 ERA and a 2.556 WHIP over 18 IP in his first four starts. Since then, he's outdone even his Cy Young numbers from 2007, posting a 2.16 ERA and 1.006 WHIP in his last 104 1/3 IP over 14 starts. He might not keep that up, but there's a good chance that he could continue putting up a sub-3 ERA with a solid WHIP, strong strikeout numbers for you in the 5x5 crowd (he's currently striking out a little over one an inning), and should get more wins with a solid Brewers offense behind him.

The only reason you might hold back would be if you thought a better player might be coming into the N.L. But who else is on the block?

The Cubs were linked in an article in this morning's Chicago Sun Times to Rich Harden. But the A's are still in the race and Harden's long injury history should definitely give you pause. His velocity in his last start against the White Sox was down 2-4 MPH, which wouldn't be a huge concern for a pitcher with less of an injury background. But it is with Harden.

The Mariners might try to shop Erik Bedard. Bedard, though, has suffered through a number of maladies this season and even when he's been healthy his numbers have been solid this year, not great.

Otherwise, it's a pretty thin year for players who will be free agents this winter. Milton Bradley is the most intriguing hitter, but the Rangers aren't sure if they're going to be buyers or sellers yet, and with all the headaches Bradley provides, he might stay put regardless. The A's always think ahead, and could trade someone who isn't due to be a free agent, like Huston Street. But, again, Sabathia's a better bet.
