Why'd I Freeze Him Again? N.L. Pitchers Edition

Tom Gorzelanny. Frozen at $6.
He's 18 walks away from his total from 2007. If you believe in second half stats, you might have avoided Gorzo, but at $6 he still seemed like a decent risk. But he's simply been one of the worst pitchers in the majors in 2008. If you're thinking about dumping him, the only taker you'll probably get is the free agent pool.

Manny Corpas. Frozen at $5.
He's not even one of those closers with a poor ERA/WHIP who at least picked up some saves before losing his job. He has all of four saves. You won't be able to dump him for two or three players (like I would have expected) this summer. He's a guy you've also got to think about waiving if you can't reserve him. Even if Brian Fuentes gets traded, I suspect Taylor Buchholz might be first in line for saves.

Oliver Perez. Frozen at $8.
Can anyone be disappointed by Oliver Perez anymore? Sure, since anyone who froze him at this price was probably counting on a $15 season. The Mets poor bullpen hasn't helped, and the wins you might have hoped for just haven't been there either. Perez isn't an example of a guy I would have thought of as a big-time dump trade candidate, but you at least wanted a profit maker here. It's not happening, and it might not happen.

Ian Snell. Frozen at $6.
Like his teammate Gorzelanny, Snell had a poor second half last year. Unlike Gorzo, Snell's K/IP and his other peripherals weren't too far off from his first half, so one might have thought that Snell pitched through some bad luck this year. The results so far might indicate a larger problem. Snell's probably been a little more unlucky than Gorzo, but his walks are up as well. Is there a coaching or conditioning problem with the Pirates? I don't know, but you have to scratch your head at both of these guys completely falling off the map since the second half of 2007.

Aaron Harang. Frozen at $21.
He was the fourth best N.L. pitcher in 4x4 last year. This year he's been awful, and at this price is far more likely to have sunk your season than someone like Gorzelanny, Perez, or Snell. An ace who falls this far and locks up this much money is typically what will end your Roto season. Yes, you weren't looking to use a Harang as a dump chip, but you did need $25-30 of stats from a guy like this to win.

Gorzo just hit the FA pool in my super-deep NL-only. He's a $5 player in his last contract year.

I have been holding onto Rich Hill (also $5 in his last year) with the thought that he might be traded to an AL team. But with his awful start Friday for Iowa, I worry that any value he might have had was flushed down the toilet.

So, do I pull the trigger on Gorzo (and spot-start him), or should I wait for something better?

Thank you.
