Observations from the blogosphere

One of my favorite things about the Internet is the unending wealth of information. And one of my favorite places to get information is from the Sports Blogs Nation family of blogs.

If you look at the right-hand side of the page, there is a blog for all 30 major league teams. Like a lot of blogs (including, in fact, this one), you have to know what to look for. These are primarily fan blogs, so the information is going to have a whiff of fan bias. But if you're savvy enough to cut through the B.S., you'll find some great nuggets, like:
  • Jon Garland's velocity is still down, despite some decent starts against the A's and Tigers
  • Jason Phillips will get most of the AB for Toronto; it will not be a Phillips/Sal Fasano split like Rotoworld suggests.
  • J.J. Putz is pitching hurt; his injury woes from spring training have not been resolved
  • Contrary to what I said in my FAAB analysis earlier this week, Matt Kata is currently in a quasi-platoon in the OF and thus probably worth a look in very deep leagues.

Again, you have to take this information with a grain of salt. But I love reading nuggets from rabid fans who watch their teams every day, and aren't just Rotoheads like me.

I've heard the same whispering about Putz, which is why I drafted Batista and Reitsma for $1 each. What other options might the M's have?

You also made me feel better about picking up Kata. However, I really need him to qualify in the infield soon.

Brandon Wood and Phil Hughes were called up today. Let's talk FAAB on those guys. In my league, minor leaguers are not eligible even for reserve spots until they are promoted to the big club.

I cannot tell you how disappointed I am about Zaun/Phillips. I just finished a dump deal where I could have taken Phillips for my Toby Hall slot, but decided not to because I didn't want bad stats out of the position. That trade went down 1 day before the Zaun announcement. Bummer timing for me.
