The A.L. I track for the FAAB logs has four teams within 4 1/2 points of each other
heading into the last 10 days. The N.L. I track has a two-team race that is
starting to look less like a race and more like a coronation. So there were
only two FAAB moves this week.
Jaime Garcia $9
Since returning from the DL after a moderate rotator cuff/labrum
tear, Garcia has been serviceable (3.89 ERA, 41 2/3 IP, 46 H, 10 BB, 36 K) across seven starts. He gets the Astros this week and is an OK add with the favorable
match-up. I'm not completely sold on him for 2012 because of the injury, but
the results have been fine.
It's never too late to try and sneak a keep onto your 2013 team if
you have the roster space. However, it's hard to envision him returning next year, given
all of his injury issues this year. For $0 it's a worthy gamble (Berkman would be a $10 freeze), but if I had
to place a bet on Berkman starting somewhere in the National League in 2013,
I'd bet strongly against.
