Two more trades today/tonight (not
including Barry Enright). Let's get right to it:
1) Pirates acquire LHP Wandy Rodriguez
from the Astros for OF Robbie Grossman, LHP Rudy Owens, LHP Colton Cain
This is a pretty vanilla move from a
Roto standpoint. Rodriguez is a borderline option in mixed formats and a must
start in N.L.-only and that isn't going to change with this intra-divisional
move. His career numbers at PNC aren't very good, but 10 starts over a long
career shouldn't be scrutinized too closely. On the Pirates end, Kevin Correia
will likely get bumped from the rotation to make room. Despite his winning
record, his low K rate and pedestrian ERA made Correia subpar even in N.L.
formats. Armando Galarraga was pulled from his start tonight after three
innings and will probably slot in for Wandy. Aside from his
perfect/non-perfect game a couple of years back, Galarraga isn't anything
special either and can mostly be ignored
Roberts' power/speed combo has been
quite diminished this year, but I suspect that he'll still get a good chunk of
AB for the Rays, mostly at third base and mostly at Jeff Keppinger's expense. Roberts
is an interesting A.L.-only pick-up for his multi positional eligibility but
I'm not sure the change of scenery is going to make the numbers better. Ryan
Wheeler is the clear winner here. He should get a chance to play full-time for
the Diamondbacks down the stretch (of course Willie Bloomquist is starting at
the hot corner tonight) and we'll get to see if his AAA power is legit (it
probably isn't).
