N.L. FAAB Log: June 11, 2012

Brad Boxberger $10.  Other bids: $5.
Boxberger came to the Padres in the Mat Latos trade.  His ERA is disappointing, but he struck out 35 batters in 23 innings, earning his call-up.  His role is undefined right now, and contending teams might want to steer clear of the unproven rookie.  Teams playing for next year, however, should be taking a long look at Boxberger at potential keeper prices.

Manny Corpas $6.  Other bids: $3, $1, $1, $0, $0.
Corpas is back from the dead.  Given the state of the Cubs’ bullpen, he could be closing in another couple of days, so this is a fair flier.  His strikeout rate was down in the minors, but he is still working his way back from his surgery.

Chris Young $6.  Other bids: $6, $2, $0.
Replacing Roy Halladay with Young seemed like a worse idea than replacing him with Cristhian Martinez (see below).  Young could not even stay with the team past his first start, going on the paternity list.  Of course, it is better than the disabled list, which he will likely see in a month or two after throwing too many 82 mph fastballs.  This is one gamble I would not bother taking.

Jim Thome $5.  Other bids:  $2.
Thome expects to start a few games from the DH slot this week, so he is probably work a look/see if you need a corner or utility.

Rex Brothers $4.  Other bids: $3, $0, $0.
The strikeout dream is up once again.  He looks a lot more like the Brothers we saw at the end of last year.  If the walks are under control, Brothers can be a significant strikeout contributor from the later inning role.

Justin Ruggiano $2.  Other bids: $0.
Ruggiano is not seeing as many at-bats recently, but perhaps he should be.  He is on a tear since joining the Marlins, hitting .421 with two home runs.  The problem, of course, is we know he will drop-off.  If you picked him up, you hope it is at least a week from now.

Jeremy Affeldt $1.  Other bids: $0.

Cristhian Martinez $1.
Replacing Roy Halladay with Martinez is not going to win you a pennant (as the winning bidder did here), but he is striking out about a batter per inning and is logging significant innings for the Braves.

Casey McGehee $1.  Other bids: $0.
McGehee picked it up a bit the last two weeks, and finally hit his first home-run.  He is essentially value-less, like most Pirates corners.
The bid fits his production.

Javier Lopez $0.

Brandon Lyon $0.  Other bids: $0.
