A.L. Gearing Up: June 18-24

Rising Up
Erasmo Ramirez (0% owned last week; 2% this week)
Ramirez isn't much of a prospect, but he is a prospect and the fact that he's a starting pitcher in pitcher-friendly Safeco automatically makes him deep league relevant. He has average stuff (at best) but good control and isn't afraid to throw strikes. Ramirez is probably a placeholder for Danny Hultzen's probable arrival later this summer, but if you want to make a spec play in A.L.-only, this isn't a bad one. Ramirez is at Arizona next week and is probably a borderline play in that stadium.

Jonathan Sanchez (16% owned last week; 18% this week)
Biceps tendinitis knocked Sanchez on the shelf for about a month. He returned with an OK start against the Brewers last week. If he got dropped in your league with limited DL/reserve slots, you're probably thinking about adding him to your squad because of the whiffs, but the extremely high walk rate makes Sanchez one to avoid for me. He is a two-start pitcher this week, at the Astros and home against the Cardinals. If you can start him in a daily league in Houston that's all right, but chances are good that if you're in a daily league that your league is too shallow for this information to do you any good.
