Since we are getting to the end of the season, and the number of moves have lessened and so many moves are based on need and remaining FAAB, I have streamlined the N.L. FAAB log for the rest of the season. I will also likely end the Gearing Up column this week as well. Instead, I will try to post about match-ups, call-ups and other items as we head to the finish line this year. I encourage you to send me specific questions as well, either via e-mail or twitter @TozRotoThink.
Joe Saunders $15.
Saunders is an excellent two-start play this week, getting the Dodgers in Los Angeles (a game he won against Ted Lilly) and the Padres in San Diego . The 4th place team is trying to get to 3rd place and is fending off a challenge from 5th place, and while he is trying to hold on to pitching points in most categories, strikeouts is a place to gain a couple of points. This is a very nice pick-up.
Jordan Pacheco $15.
As I wrote about on Saturday, Pachecho has been anointed the starter for the rest of the season and, as you know, at-bats this time of year are king…particularly at-bats in Colorado . Pacheco is off to a hot start, going 6-18 with one home run and six runs batted in. This is the 4th place team again, trying to make its run.
Drew Pomerantz $12.
I like Pomerantz long term, but I always wonder about the contenders picking up rookie pitchers, particularly rookie pitchers pitching in Colorado . Moreover, Pomerantz replaced Wade Miley, who has a favorable Friday matchup in San Diego . Perhaps this is a keeper bid from the 2nd place team, knowing 1st place is completely out of touch…he could be a keep at $12, though it wouldn’t be by me. It is not all negative: Pomerantz does get the Giants.
Bryan LaHair $10.
The 3rd place team strikes again. While the Cubs originally said LaHair would just be “worked in” to the line-up, he is essentially playing just about every day. As I wrote about twice already, LaHair adds an instant power potential to your team, and he is off to a very hot start.
Other pick-ups:
Chris Denorfia $7; Brad Peacock $4; Steve Lombardozzi $2; Michael Stutes $2; Henry Blanco (waivers); Brett Myers (waivers).

Hey guys,
Sanity check please: After asking a bunch of questions here, doing some analysis myself, and reading other opinions (like fangraphs), I dropped Javier Vazquez eight starts into the season with an ERA and WHIP just shy of 8 and 2. Of course, hindsight is always 20/20. Now I'm locked in a very tight race, and I'm kicking myself for dropping him. Since then, he's posted over a 100 K's, a mid 3's ERA, and a sub 1.2 WHIP, all for one of the other contenders. I've had basically a combination of Dillon Gee and Mike Minor in his spot, for about a mid 4's ERA and 1.4 WHIP.
Based on the information we had at the time, the right move was the drop him. Right?
Just checking. :)
Thanks for all the great posts!
