Back to our Regularly Scheduled Programming

I love talking about the Hall of Fame, but this is a Rotisserie blog, so now I'm going to return you to our regularly scheduled programming.

I'm on the verge of winning the CBSSports.com A.L.-Only Analysts League. I'm 10 1/2 points up and even if I were at risk of losing points have a lot of Twins on my roster who will only pad my HR/RBI/R/SB numbers.

This is a particularly sweet win for me since there was a good deal of cynicism both from a portion of my audience and from some of the experts I was competing against. They didn't think that a team with $113 pitching staff had a shot at winning...let alone a shot at dominating. My response was that good valuation trumps all, and this year it most definitely did.

I'll have some more detailed write-ups about my success in the expert-A.L. in the near future.

Toz tanked in the N.L. version of this league, finishing tied for 9th. This write-up belongs to him.

As for my regular American League, I finished 4th for the second year in a row. But the big story in my venerable A.L.-only league was how the first place team coughed up a 5 1/2 point lead in the final week, is now one point behind, and whose chances of taking first place back during the Twins/Tigers play-off game are very poor. I'm going to write about this as well, giving a blow-by-blow account of how and why this happened.

My league stops counting at the end of 162 games, and does not include the playoff play-in. I've always wondered why the play-in game didn't count, since it's considered part of the regular season (as far as stats go).

How do other leagues address this?

"Tank" does not begin to describe how everything went wrong in the NL CBS. The good news? I told everyone I tanked at the auction; in fact, I told Mike I tanked during the auction. More to follow.

My AL-only team is on the verge of coughing up a 7.5 point lead in the final week, so Im interested in seeing the blow-by-blow of how it happened in your league.

Here's how close my league is:

Though I am 4 points up going into the tie-breaker, I am only up 2 runs and .002 in OBP on the 2nd place team. If he turns these two categories, we'd be tied.

Oh yeah, and I kid you not, but despite being 1 and 2 in IP with well over 1100 IP each - we are both at 4.165 in ERA - although the 2nd place team is above me in that category, so I have some upward mobility.

I have Laird, Guillen and Polanco playing tomorrow. Guerrier and E Jackson as well.

2nd has O Cabrera, Inge and Granderson.

To top it all off, Im heading to Ireland tonight and will be uncomfortably sleeping during the tie-breaker. God help me.

Brad Lidge is the worst Roto player ever. I couldn't trade him, I couldn't release him (he kept closing all season), he destroyed my ERA and WHIP. I finished third, no small thanks to Lidge.

stats for tie-breaker games have always counted in my league. they have decided the pennant on more than one occasion.

congratulations, mike, great job. I would never have thought you would win CBS either, though who am I to doubt you!

Looking back at your draft, I still have a hard time believing you won it. Santana was poor, Lackey didnt have that many wins. What happened to Lee's stats when he went to the Phils? Anyway he didnt pitch great there. You had excellent production out of your 5 hitters with rolen being a nice help but that doesnt seem like enough so I guess I would need to see your pickups which must have been very good. You showed balls in doing it on your valuation method even though top heavy on pitching. My question: would that strategy work in your regular league? have a great off-season. until later, as peter used to say.
