A.L. FAAB Supplemental 8/10/09: Brian Matusz

The Orioles pitching prospects are coming! The Orioles pitching prospects are coming! Last week I wrote about Chris Tillman and this week it's Brian Matusz. The 22-year-old left hander started the year ranked behind Tillman on John Sickels' Orioles list, but he's at least even with him now after a sick 2009 minor league campaign, including an absurdly good 1.55 ERA in 46 1/3 IP at AA Bowie. That, of course is the rub; 46 1/3 IP at Double-A or higher doesn't tell us a whole lot, and Matusz is likely to take his lumps in the majors at some point. I still think he's worth a $15 gamble if you're playing for next year, and at least a $30 bid if you have a lot of FAAB left burning a hole in your pocket. If you've been waiting, I assume Matusz is one of the guys you've been waiting for?
