Clay Buchholz
What to bid on Buchholz is clouded for a number of reasons. His stuff is legit, but after a promising MLB debut in 2007 he struggled in 2008. He's on a strict pitch count right now so even on a powerhouse like Boston wins won't necessarily be easy to come by. It's doubtful that the Red Sox would trade him, but that's always a possibility, and Buchholz could be in the National League on August 2. All of that being said, Buchholz is worth at least a $12 bid, which can be applied to both teams playing for this year as well as next year. I like Buchholz long-term, but as we all know, that long-term could be next month, next year, or three years from now.

Jhoulys Chacin
Entering 2009, Chacin was the best pitching prospect in the Rockies organization, and some were comparing him with the Giants uber-prospect Madison Bumgarner. I think that's a stretch, but Chacin is definitely one of the better pitching prospects in baseball and could definitely be the ace of the Rockies staff someday. The problem is that he's 21 years old and the Rox called him up to help out of the bullpen. That's where I suspect Chacin will stay this year, making his value limited. I'd bid $4, only because I don't know what Chacin's role is going to be in 2010, and I don't like blowing big amounts of FAAB on a maybe if I'm playing for next year.
