N.L. FAAB Supplemental: Kyle Blanks

The #1 prospect in the Padres system entering 2009 (according to John Sickels), Blanks is a tremendous hitting prospect whose best shot on a National League team is at 1B. This poses a problem, as for some odd reason San Diego is pretty attached to that Gonzalez guy they have playing there now. The good news for Rotisserie players is that the Padres have already started him twice in left field, and it looks like they're going to give Blanks' defense there a try and see if he can be a passable defender. Despite a subpar year-to-date at AAA Portland, there are few doubts amongst the scouts about Blanks' bat. His upside is probably as a .280 hitter with 25-30 HR power at his peak, and I might be giving him the short shrift based on his Portland numbers; Blanks has been young at every level he's played at and until this year has taken names at every stop. I'd bid $23 and hope that his defense is good enough to keep in the line-up. Even with Petco potentially depressing Blanks' power potential, he's still a good enough prospect that it won't matter.
