A highly regarding catching prospect for the Phillies, Marson was called up to the big club on Saturday when Carlos Ruiz hit the DL with an oblique injury. There are mixed feelings in the scouting community on Marson's long-term value. His proponents were excited about last year's breakout year at AA Reading, particularly because he was very young (21 in 2008) for his level. His detractors point out that most of his gains came in batting average, which could have been a sample size anomaly, and that there wasn't any power to go along with his breakthrough. He'd have to hit at least .280-.290 in the majors to be all that valuable as a catcher (they continue).
As far as a bid goes, his bid in non-keeper leagues is a low $2 since I think that Chris Coste will get most of the starts while Ruiz is out. In keeper leagues, I'd go as high as $8, since I think that Marson's call up means that the Phillies see him as someone on the fast track who could start with the team as soon as 2010.

As a Ruiz owner, I was very aware that Marson was lingering as a possible starter if Ruiz' 2008 repeated itself. Once Carlos hit the D.L., I pounced on Marson.
I am in a two catcher NL-Only 4x4 so an all AVG catcher is very desirable.
