N.L. FAAB Log: June 29, 2008

Eric Stults $6. Other bids: $2, $1.
The 28-year-old journeyman has put up some great numbers in his two spot starts for the Dodgers: so good that Joe Torre is going to go with a six-man rotation for now. As Rotoworld points out, Stults has starts coming up against the Giants and Astros, so he could be a decent match-up play in the short term. I'd be wary that the law of averages could come catching up to him in a big way, though. Stults is comparable to Dan Giese on the Yankees. He knows how to pitch, but doesn't really have big time stuff. If he's not completely on, he could get tagged.

Mitchell Boggs $1.
Boggs is younger than Stults, but also isn't much of a prospect. He could get lucky and stick as a back end of the rotation type guy, but doesn't really have much in the way of secondary pitches. His 3.28 ERA at AAA this year was more a product of luck than anything else. He did well against a weak Royals line-up today, but is also not a good bet going forward.

Chan Ho Park $1.
I don't expect Park to keep pitching as well as he has in his first two starts, but Dodger Stadium has always seemed to agree with him and I'd say you can play the match-ups here. His Wednesday start against the Astros is OK for him. Like the two pitchers ahead of him on this list, he is a risky play even in the so-called "safe" match-ups. Happy 35th, Chan Ho. I can't believe I won my A.L. in 2002 after paying $21 for you.

Greg Dobbs $1.

Dobbs won't see much playing time now that interleague play is completed. He's had a poor June, and unless Dobbs is hitting .350, isn't worth playing for the Phillies due to Pedro Feliz's stellar defense.

Rogeravin Bernadina $1.
Bernadina was lighting it up in AA before his promotion to the Nationals (I started typing Expos). He's up because the Nationals lack organizational depth at AAA, and probably won't be up long. He does have a lot of speed, so is worth picking up if you need SB desperately. He did get caught today against the Orioles.

Jason Michaels $1. Other bid $1.
Like Dobbs, Michaels shouldn't see much action now that interleague play is over. He's been nice for the Pirates in a part-time role, but with an OF of Xavier Nady, Nate McLouth, and Jason Bay, Michaels will only start 1-2 times a week, if that.

Mike Fontenot $1.
With the Cubs outfield banged up, Fontenot should see some time at 2B as Mark DeRosa moves to the OF. Fontenot is a low HR/low SB guy who has value in deep N.L. only leagues as a third MI but your expectations shouldn't be much higher than an OK batting average and a few RBI if he plays.
