N.L. FAAB Log: June 1, 2008

Jody Gerut $6. Other bids $3, $2, $1, $1.
Since I last wrote about Gerut, he hasn't done much to solidify his role in the crowded Padres outfield. Fortunately for him, neither have Justin Huber or Paul McAnulty. Gerut's done little recently outside of his pinch hit home run earlier this week against the Nationals, but seems to be the starter for the most part, logging 21 AB in the past seven days. He's still worth owning in N.L.-only leagues, but his performance could lead to him losing the job in a hurry.

T.J. Bohn $2.
Bohn's all the way at the bottom of the Phillies OF depth chart. He's got a little speed, but we're talking Willie Bloomquist here in terms of upside. He's a minor league journeyman with little to no Roto value.

Josh Banks $2. Other bids $1, $1, $1.
Banks had a spectacular outing against the Giants this week, but is a junk baller who will have his good days and his horrid days. The former Blue Jays farmhand does have very good control, and Petco should suppress some of the damage. He gets the Mets this week, which doesn't look like such a good match-up.

Josh Anderson $2. Other bids $1, $1.
Anderson got the call on Friday, and so far hasn't played much for the Braves. He's lightning fast, and his greatest asset will be his ability to run. He was floundering in AAA before his call up. At the moment, he's only a play for those N.L.-only squads desperate for speed.

Endy Chavez $2. Other bid $1.
He'll spell both Ryan Church and Moises Alou a little more frequently, particularly Church while he recovers. Chavez has done almost nothing this year and isn't worth owning at the moment.

Delwyn Young $1.
I still don't see where Young is going to play in the current Dodgers configuration. He picked up a rare start today, which gives Young a whopping 32 AB on the season.

Dave Bush $1.
Bush put up a strong outing today against the Astros, but is in Coors this coming week. He's given up 13 HR in 60 2/3 IP, and might actually be lucky to "only" have a 5.49 ERA so far. The strikeouts are down too, perhaps making his BABIP a little bit lucky as well. Teams that win in Roto avoid guys like Bush. He's an accident waiting to happen.

Phil Dumatrait $1.
The Pirates move of Dumatrait to the rotation has produced mixed results. The ERA looks solid, but the WHIP indicates a fall is coming, particularly with Dumatrait's lousy BB/SO. Despite his relative youth, he's already a journeyman who bounced from the Red Sox system to the Reds system to Pittsburgh. Dumatrait's a two start starter this week, hosting the Astros and then the Diamonbacks.

Willie Harris $1.
Harris will get some starts at 2B while Felipe Lopez clears the cobwebs out of his head, but Harris' value is limited at this point, since he doesn't run as much as he used to and is a poor bet for sustained production.

Joe Mather $1.
Prospect or no, Mather's put on a power show the last two years in the minors, and probably deserved his call-up, even if Chris Duncan didn't deserve his demotion. Mather's got a power swing and could provide a handful of HR while Duncan gets his act together in AAA.

With Banks' performance against NY, has your opinion of him changed? Do you see him being the No. 5 for San Diego for the rest of the season, or are these three starts a fluke? I think he could be a fine spot-starter at home or against weak-hitting teams.
