Angel Pagan (vs. Matt Diaz)

In addition to Matt Diaz, anonymous also could pick up Angel Pagan.
Angel Pagan is also available for $5. Would he be a better pickup? I chose Diaz because I think I can use him in lefty matchups.
Diaz is probably a better pick-up. If you need steals, Pagan might be better, though.

This is more about opportunity, however. For all I talked on Tuesday about how Diaz might not have much of a role to return to when he comes off of the DL at the end of next month, Pagan's role is more certain. He'll probably back up all three outfield spots when he comes back.

Pagan's biggest problem in terms of playing time is that he's stronger against righties than he is against lefties. He'd have more of an opportunity to play if it was the other way around, since he could slide in for Fernando Tatis or platoon with Endy Chavez until Ryan Church comes back. As it currently stands, that's not likely.

Anonymous' league has a very thin free agent pool. As he puts it:
This is a pretty deep NL-only. To give you a sample of the FA pool, Corey Patterson at $13 is the best hitter (statistically) available.
Your goal in a league like this should be to try and identify players who have the best chance at playing time. Anonymous' analysis, therefore, is correct. Diaz is better than Pagan because he has a clearer opportunity to get AB when he returns. Pagan could get at bats, but a lot would have to happen in the Mets OF for that opportunity to materialize.
