A.L. FAAB Supplemental: June 29, 2008

Chris Davis
Davis already has two home runs this week, so he's not going to be cheap in leagues where the FAAB hasn't been flying. His minor league line - 23/73/7/.333 - would be spectacular for a 22-year old kid in a full season, but this is over 297 AB (between AA Frisco and AAA Oklahoma). The key to Davis' success was reducing some of the length in his swing. As the linked article suggests, Davis is probably always going to be a strikeout guy. But he's got incredible power, and I don't think is a Russ Branyan (um, the pre-2008 Russ Branyan) in the making. I could see his average dipping into the .250 - .260 range in his bad years, but this is also a guy I could see hitting .280 - .300 with a sick amount of power. An open question this year is whether or not Davis will get sent down once Hank Blalock gets activated from the DL, but I think Davis is here to stay. $45, only because I think enough touts are still down on Davis and some owners are going to hedge their bets. I say don't. Davis is the Roto opposite of a guy like Carlos Gonzalez: someone whose value in Roto will be far greater than it is in real life because of the incredible raw power potential. This guy could be Adam Dunn with a better batting average in 2-3 years.

I got Davis for $27, but don't know the second high bid.

My league spent a lot of cash in April and May.
