Follow Up on Dump Trade 1

While Mike continues his losing battle with the new Empire (Verizon), let me follow up on his post regarding the first dump trade of the year. I have some insight into that trade, since I moved Sizemore.

Prior to the draft, I (and a few others) suspected that a couple of owners would be playing for next year. The team I moved Sizemore to did an excellent job of drafting impact next year players. After the draft, I felt that I needed to make an upgrade move early in order to gain advantage.

Not every deal works as you might hope. Since the trade in early April (Which cost me Sizemore at $20, Pena at $1 and a second round draft pick), here is how things have panned out:
Sizemore and Pena: 752AB, .282, 17HR, 94RBI, 28SB.
Guerrero and Tejada (estimate for Tejada because our system is screwy): 580AB, .308, 19HR, 107RBI, 3SB.

While standing pat at the time would tighten the HR and RBI positions I am currently in, it would not cost me any points. On the other hand, I would have 4 more points in SB. This deal also hurt from a cap perspective, with Guerrero at $44 and Tejada at $35.

Generally speaking, dumping early can be a good strategy - the more "upgrade" at-bats you can get, the better. In this case it didn't work out.
