Cameron Maybin
Apparently, 20 great at bats in AA were all the Tigers needed to see before deciding that Maybin should be part of their play-off push this year. Whether or not you're convinced the same is true is another story. Overall, Maybin's 14/53/25/.316 is impressive for a 20-year old, regardless of the level he plays at. However, Maybin is still very raw, and probably won't have the kind of impact contenders are looking for this year, and he could still sit against tough right-handers down the stretch. I'd probably bid $10 in leagues where you can't keep him next year, and $17 if you're playing for next year and looking to block one of your opponents from getting a decent freeze.
Joel Guzman
A .409 slugging percentage is about the only good news you can take out of Guzman's season in Triple-A this year. The .242 average and .282 OBP don't speak well to Guzman's future as a major leaguer. He's still only 22 years old, meaning he still has time to get better. Unlike Maybin, though, Guzman doesn't project as a superstar. $5, since I believe that even if Guzman makes the majors at some point, it won't be on Opening Day 2008.
Franklin Morales
He's considered one of the best left-handed pitching prospects in the game, but he's very raw at 21 years of age, and the walk totals are still very, very high to expect short-term success. He had a nice outing against a weak Dodgers line-up, and I'd wait to see how he does against some stronger offenses before placing a FAAB bid. $3, but only if you really need a starter.
