Bonds

Putting aside the controversy surrounding Bonds, the icon of the "steroid era," and the fact that he is generally unpleasant, surly and unwelcoming, those of us who were lucky to watch on television, or witness in person, Bonds' 756 HR witnessed something truly historic in the context of sports. I only wish my children were awake to see it as it happened, since these moments are all too rare - nothing I can tell them about it will explain the chills that ran up and down my body and the raw emotion of the moment.
I will leave it to the historians to discuss the impact of steroids, of expansion, of small ballparks, etc. and so on, on the fall of the home run record. For tonight (and likely many days to follow), I will remain in awe of what I just saw.
