Supplemental FAAB Log 5/14/07

American League
Kendry Morales: He was very highly touted when he was first signed by the Angels, and a lot of people (me included), spent high reserve or farm picks on him expecting big things right out of the gate. A lot of people (me included) have given up on him, not because there's anything wrong with Morales, but because Casey Kotchman seems to be back in the organization's good graces and Morales has started in only three of the 12 games he's been on the major league roster. It's hard to hit when you sit. I don't like the Angels philosophy of bringing up young players to sit, but I doubt a sternly worded letter to Mr. Moreno is going to change things. Bid $2

Chad Orvella: This must be the dimmed lights edition of the Supplemental FAAB Log(TM), because Orvella was Tampa's closer of the future back in March 2006, and was kept in more than a few leagues with early freeze dates. He didn't even make the big club, had severe control issues, and did not record a single save for the D-Rays. He's back up this year, but with Al Reyes entrenched in the closer role, I'd pass on Orvella. No bid.

National League
Carlos Gomez: I feel like the Mets are rushing this guy, though his promotion might very well speak more to the lack of organizational depth (read: 26-year old organizational foot soldiers who can fill in in a pinch) than to the Mets rushing him. But Gomez has been rushed so far, in my humble opinion. He barely walks, and unless or until he develops the 15-20 HR power that might be capable of, he should be down in the minors learning when to take a pitch. He is jackrabbit fast; Gomez stole a base in his major league debut over the weekend and could steal a few more while he's up. On speed alone, he has to get a $5 bid. I'd bid more in a keeper league; I think Gomez could be up next year in a starting role if Alou isn't invited back.

Gomez went for $10, with $6 and $5 as loser bids, in my 9-team $260 4x4 NL-only.
