This was a very quiet week in the National League. Stay tuned tomorrow, when I'll probably get to write about Ryan Langerhans in the American League!!!
Jonathan Sanchez $1
In the watery San Francisco bullpen, he's probably the Bochy's best option if Benitez gets hurt or is traded. Be wary, though; Steve Kline has the veteran's hoary glow all over him, and there's no guarantee that Sanchez gets the job. I like Sanchez a lot, though he's one of those pitchers who probably should have gotten more time in the minors but is in The Show more based on raw ability. $1 is fine; he should be on a Roto roster.
Willie Harris $1
Wow, that was quick; Harris was just called up tonight for the just-traded Ryan Langerhans. Harris might steal a couple of bases, but it's more likely he gets buried on the Atlanta bench. Pass.
Scott Hairston $1
A great pick at $1. Hairston will probably get 2-3 starts a week in Arizona, and might see more time if Young and Quentin don't pick up the pace. It's too bad Scott doesn't play more positions; he could be a super-utility type. As it is, he's a good cheap pick in deeper leagues.
Livan Hernandez $1
He's got an ugly 13/19 K/BB ratio in 32 IP, yet somehow has a 2-1 record with a 3.94 ERA and 4 quality starts. By some miracle, he's allowed just 1 HR in 32 IP; I expect that to change. He's an innings filler, and you want to be careful about using him, if you absolutely must use him. Do as I say not as I do applies; Toz and I own him in Sportsline, and he's on our active roster because Chris Carpenter's out and we need the innings.
